I work primarily in acrylic on stretched canvas. My preferred method is to “build” a painting by adding layer upon layer to the canvas, and the fact that the acrylic paint dries quickly makes it the perfect medium for my style.

Each day I peruse your art…..trying to figure out the method. Frustration abounds. Do you offer an online course or better yet, book telling the secrets of your method and process? I am trying to figure it out and have covered so many canvasses only to screw …..cannot get the transparency of all those fabulous layers……

I have only been working on putting down my thoughts about the mental part of the art-making process. I hadn’t considered tackling the technical aspects of my process, as it has always struck me as being pretty straightforward. Have you produced any videos of yourself creating one of your fabulous paintings? I too would like to know how you build up the layers in your work.

I have made no videos, and don’t have the technical skills to do so. I will, however, make an effort to do a few more “evolution of a painting” series. The trick is to remember to start photographing at the very beginning of a piece.

I find your work inspiring. I love the graphical qualities of the images and the way colour and texture are combined. I taught art and design for over 30 years in a high school in the UK but am now retired and have organized my own studio, but where to begin. All those decades ago at art school I was liberated from needing to define an accurately portrayed image but through years of teaching kids it somehow got lost. Now I am trying to find that illusive thing again and loosen up. Finding your work has inspired me in that search.

Thank you so much. Best wishes on your journey…..my best advice is to just go for it. Just do stuff, go with your gut, don’t worry about the final product. Once you take those first steps it will happen for you. I promise.

My sister Jeanne Aurelius and brother in law David have your work at Clay Bay Pottery. I saved up and bought one of your pieces which I LOVE. I paint with watercolor and now learning how to “think backwards” with oils— going dark to light. You are an inspiration with your work in acrylic. I also own some of Peter Hegland’s pieces. I feel your personalities in our home. Thank you!

I have only recently discovered your work and I absolutely love everything you do. At the age of 73 I have finally gotten into painting and am so regretting all the years I have wasted. i am clumsily trying to find my way to producing images I am happy with so I have been poring over endless numbers of contemporary artists work, trying to get some help. I must say you beat the lot and I wish I had found you sooner! Back to the brushes!
